2009 Convertible Roof Won't Open / Ideas Appreciated

Hi all, I've just acquired a RHD 2009 mini convertible and I love it, although the roof doesn't work; we knew the roof was not working before we got ot but do not know quite why.

I have replaced the F6 (30A) fuse, other sources state there is more than one fuse controlling the soft top but I'm not sure which as my layouts arent quite the same.

I saw that you can use the alan key to open/close the sunroof, but the hex "receptacle" described was completely stiff and un-turnable.

After taking off and replacing the sunroof motor, I am able to press in and engage the hex and turn it with the alan key, this starts to open the sunroof, and I am able to get the sunroof fully open. This then triggers an event on the dash which shows a sunroof(or roof maybe) logo with a padlock next to it.

Once the sunroof is partly/fully open using above method the switch can be used to close the sunroof, this also lowers the windows before closing the sunroof and raising the windows. There is some whiring in the back when this engages, but the roof does not move. Importantly, this switch does not work to open the sunroof any further or open the roof once sunroof fully opened manually, it is one-way only. More importantly, once the sunroof is fully closed by the switch, you hear a click, and the hex bit pops back out and is again unturnable until you again remove the motor and engage it while replacing the motor.

I have tried so many tips from online with regards to "resetting" i.e holding various switches for various lengths of time, no luck.

I have ensured the switch triggered by parcel shelf is engaged.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks!

Solved it

Hi, I tried all of that but to no avail. But I have now solved the issue myself!

For anyone wondering, everything else seemed to be in order. As a last hail Mary I disassembled the overhead switch assembly, found a circuit board, under that there are copper contacts which are bridged by carbon rubber pads. Cleaned all that then put it back together, thinking it was a waste of my time anyway; and this did the trick.

Goes to show it could be something as simple as that.
