I've got a oil leaking running down onto my downpipe. I think its the oil filter housing because I think the leak is coming from above the oil pan. Is this typical for oil filter housing leak?

Well.......they do tend to leak you have 2x sets of gaskets in that housing......better pictures would also help!

 

Yep down the front on the engine. Looks near the downpipe further up on the block. If its just the bottom, its the oil pan gasket.

 

Thanks, I started removing the oil filter housing today but not sure how to remove it from the car. Theres a pump(not sure if its actually a pump) mounted to the housing with a electrical plug connected, any idea how to unplug it? Or should I remove the two bolts that are mounting it to the housing?

 

There's a couple of torx's bolts that secures the oil filter housing to the engine block......
When I replaced my gaskets I put the front into service mode.....this allowed me too easily
remove the housing and clean the area......the downpipe shield is blocking one of the coolant
lines.......
