Perhaps an inner CV only clicking noise under the weight of the car??
Something stuck in the fan housing hitting the fan blades?

I recently heard a similar clicking/grinding noise emminating from my right front wheel while driving. I'd thought it was the wheel bearing beginning to fail. While jacking up the car to remove the wheel, I happened to find the culprit - a broken piece of a coat hanger that was wedged between the brake rotor and backing plate.
(I run drilled and slotted brake rotors).

Even a piece of gravel caught between the rotor and a backing plate or in the tire tread will do it. To narrow it down, have someone stand outside the car and listen while you drive very slowly by.

Something at the rear of the car, perhaps?

Hi, my inner cv boot is torn but repacked it an sound seems to be a lot quieter, so prob the issue here, any thoughts on cardone remanufactured cv axles from rock auto? They seem decently priced and are reman so i assume a better option than aftermarket?

As I heard good things regarding Cardon reman axles; I had also purchased them with high hopes. I was SPECIFIC when ordering Cardone (Amazon?) axles for my: '04 R53, 6 speed manual but was sent the wrong axles and had to return them.
Just be sure to clarify Year, Make and Model when ordering.
Not to disparage Cardone - but; It seems I wasn't the only one who has had the issue receiving the wrong axles from them (or their sellers?).

Please post back when you can. It would really help the/us other 1st gen owners regarding your experience.

BTW: WayMotorWorks in Atlanta also offers genuine rebuilt axles at a somewhat, reasonable price. You may have to give them a call to have your order filled since I couldn't find a listing for their (rebuilt) axles.
From my experience with Way; I trust their quality and workmanship. They specialize and work on Mini's.

I have decided to go ahead and order the cardone one from rockauto, it seems they have 2 different serials for the r53 and r50, i think at $80 nzd I can't really go wrong, i have ordered the 9279 which is listed as the right one so fingers crossed

Pretty sure spline counts are different between R50 and R53 for all transmissions, so the different part numbers make sense.

Exactly.
That was the first thing I checked (and length) against my originals when I received my axles. After doing a little research, I also found an older discussion here on NAM, They had indeed shipped me the ones for an R50.
The quality looked good though. I must admit.

F.Y.I. I use Cardone reman axles on my R53 and have never had an issue.
