Power loss/shudder to no start situation

My 2005 R53 had power loss/bogging while driving in gear, then gave out when I got to an intersection. Would start up but die in a second or two. Looked at ground points, vacuum connections, spark and attempted to start a handful of times which ended up with just crank and no start.

Now, I've gotten the car back to a brief start scenario after pressurizing the fuel system with an on & off of the ignition a few times. Does anyone know if that's a clear indication of anything like the fuel filter, pump, regulator, injectors, etc?

Appreciate any advice!

FYI, I gutted my interior a couple months back to clean a mouse residency that had previously resulted in a similar power loss situation. I repaired a chewed cable, snug up some loose vacuum lines, cleared out the airbox, investigated the throttle body, and cleaned out every bit of sleeping/s****ing quarters in the car, excluding a full dash removal, and she was running again. I caught one mouse with a sticky trap and managed a tail from another which seemed to scare them away entirely. I kept the car in a gutted state for the winter season so there are no warm places for them to take advantage of and occupy.

Can you hear the fuel pump when turning on the key (but not starting)? You should be able to hear a short whine when it primes. Removing the back seat bottom would help you hear it. It should not take turning the ignition on/off a few times to prime the pump. Your whole issue sounds like a fuel starvation problem.

My rear seat is out and I'm not hearing the fuel pump whine you're mentioning with the ignition on. I used the component activation on my scan tool to test the Relay/Fuel Pump and it also isn't making a whine from the pump (not really sure if it's even supposed to prime the pump), just clicks from the dash with the 5 second activation. I can hear a little whine when I activate the Tank-leak Diagnosis Pump from my passenger side section where the fuel filter would be.

The symptoms leading up to the no-start condition definitely sound like a dead fuel pump, especially if you're not hearing the pump prime now. These things go without warning. You should hear it clearly from under the car, or in your case inside since you have the seats removed, as soon as you turn the key from position 0 to position 2 (on without starting).

Thanks for the guidance guys. Today I replaced the fuel pump and filter, added some fuel system cleaner and now am back to running condition.
Appreciate the advice!

I bought a replacement fuel pump from FCP Euro for only $175, something I was expecting to be much more expensive. On their site it's branded as VDO which I didn't realize is a division of Continental Group, and was surprised to see the entire thing is branded and stamped Continental.
