Found this on a Facebook page, he claims that these are true oil readings from his Scangauge plugged into his N18 engine. I'm thinking it's just made up numbers by the ECM like the Chrono Pack in the first generation cars .. not true readings
This device is using an OBDII bluetooth dongle that is connected to you DME thru your OBDII port. The readings would be the same thing as if you're hooking up your Foxwell or any other OBD scan tool. As for accuracy, the tool is reading off as a live data
N16 & N18 engines have oil pressure transmitters (3 wire sensors). You are seeing the actual oil pressure, but the Scan Gauge only works on the N18 for oil pressure. Scan Gauge haven't cracked the software for the N16. For some reason, the oil pressure transmitters are wired differently between the N16 & N18.

But there is no oil temp sensor in the engine...where is it getting the reading from, pulling random numbers out of the air?
The oil temp might be a calculation. I know that's how it is in my Camaro. It's a concern for us that track it because it calculates the temperature based on a lot of factors, including throttle position and RPMs. And having added oil coolers and things, it could still be inaccurate, so an actual gauge is recommended. But that might be where it gets it from.

Oil pressure and oil temperature are a "calculated" number in the first Gen Mini's with the W11 engine that have the Chrono Pak....the ECM uses mileage, coolant temp, vehicle speed, & a few other factors to come up with an extrapolated number for those two gauges....it's not a "true" reading.....which brought me to suspect what the guy said in my original post that his N18 engine has senders for oil pressure and oil temperature......I have my doubts as to his statement on that
You could get an oil temp gauge with a dedicated sender for the gauge that takes the place of the oil pan drain plug.....that gauge is completely separate from the rest of the gauges and it's mounted under the toggle switches and heater controls. I have a regular ScanGauge in my R52, it has provision for oil temp, but again, it's not a true reading.
I'm thinking the picture in my first post is misleading the owner of the car saying he has oil temp
