R56 I've got the worng transmission
I've got the wrong transmission
I've got a 2010 Base that's got a transmission that decided that I didn't really need second gear. No problem, it probably needs a clutch anyways. I found a trans on car-part.com from a 2010 base with 17k miles and had it shipped. The guys were super nice.
However, it seems that they sent me a transmission from an S. When I first got it, I noticed that the casting on the non-engine side of the transmission was a bit different as pictured in the Bentley manual. The salvage yard included the VIN and the local mini dealer was nice enough to look it up, confirming that it was a base model with a manual, so I figured I was good.
Well, today I went to install it and it doesn't fit. Specifically, the input shaft is bigger and won't fit in the clutch friction plate. I couldn't get the transmission to mate with the engine, so I dropped it and tried the old friction plate. No go. :( I should have trusted my gut and the manual.
Does anyone have any creative options for me? I'll contact the salvage yard on Monday and see what they have to say. Even if I got a friction plate that works, the ratios are going to be different, right?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.
