I need help please! I have a 2010 Cooper S that seems to be destroying starters. I am on my third starter in three days. First day started just fine and drove to work. But would not even turn over when ready to go home. Installed NEW starter and would not even turn over. Got another NEW starter installed and it started just fine. Drove it around a short distance and parked it. One hour later, tried to start it and nothing. Won't even turn over. Starter is getting power and signal. Need help and don't even know where to begin.
How old is your battery? You never mentioned anything about the condition of your battery. Have you done a load test on your battery? You know, the safety switch on the clutch pedal could have a defect
The battery is less than two years old. NO, I have not done a load test, but is fully charged. And it did start the vehicle a couple of times before the starter stopped working. I guess I also failed to mention that it is an automatic, so no clutch sensor.
Why did you replace the starter in the first place? What was the diagnosis you came up with to replace it the first time? Have you bench tested the original to confirm it is indeed not functional?
Now that you mentioned "Automatic", they do have a safety switch for the "Park and Neutral" position. Do check on the safety switch. Trust me, automatics do have them. That's what completes the circuit for the starter motor. It only takes one innocent switch for not to complete the starter motor circuit
@ECS Tuning does have this switch called "Neutral Safety switch". Of course you always want to check and determine if the neutral switch is good or bad first
