Clubman Pickup Truck Build

Mini Clubman S pickup I've been working on. Decided I wanted to build a mini pickup and reached the conclusion that a clubman would be the best blank canvass, mostly because I wanted to use the stock rear door tops for the bulkhead windows. So I went shopping in the Pacific Northwest for a clubman S with a manual transmission and no sunroof. That limited my options quite a bit so I drove 300 miles to just south of Canada and drug this one home with 133k miles for $4500. I would have spent more for a nicer one with lower miles if I could have found one. I think the pictures are fairly self explanatory. Getting the bed interior to look halfway decent took a lot more time than I anticipated. The bulkhead is the trickiest part of one of these builds and mine is no exception. I give myself a 6.5/7 out of 10 for the execution of that. The car is super quite to drive so I got it sealed up pretty well. Got a few electrical gremlins to track down but seems to be running good so far. I considered NT RDBL for my license plate but decided the audience for that was too limited

Nice Job ! Any flex ? I like the wood bed. The only thing I might have added is a lift kit

Could be the best handling, best mpg functional pickup truck

OMG this is the best thing I’ve seen this weekend! Excellent job! That thing look like a hoot to take around. Had you considered grafting on the 3rd brake light contour on the top of the bulkhead?

thanks so much! I don't perceive any real flex but I haven't driven it too much yet. I might add a cross brace under the wood bed if I perceive that as an issue

thanks so much. Yes I did consider that but couldn't figure out a way to make it look good

well we needed a counterweight to all the gushing compliments. Thanks for the reality check. That's an issue. So far I've drilled holes for drainage but yah I am a little concerned about that

One thing about water ...

It flows downhill and is driven by gravity. Can you add a slight incline on the bed and have it drain off by the tailgate ? Either that or 'saran wrap all the electricals with a pool liner or don't drive it in the rain and keep it garaged (NOT)

Nice job! njaremka had the same question I had.

If bored and want to do another, perhaps start with a Coupe. Then you could have the El Camino/Ranchero Mini truck, just extend the rear and stiffen the suspension.

Hold on a minute. Water flows down hill?!? What would we do without a Floridian to help us out with observations like this. But yah, I think I'll wrap them or bag them. Or maybe do nothing and wait until they fail, then figure it out.

The pictures do tell a story, and it's clear you've put some serious work into this. The bulkhead and the interior must have been quite the challenge, but it's all part of the fun, right?
It's great to hear that it's running smoothly, even though a few electrical gremlins are on the loose. That's par for the course with custom projects like these.
And hey, when it comes to license plates, you've got a unique ride, so why not have a plate that stands out, too? NT RDBL would have been cool, but it's your creation, and that's what makes it special.
If you ever decide to venture into the world of used trucks again, you might want to explore various kinds of used trucks for sale.
