08 Clubman - No Ign, Crank or Start - No Fob Response
Hi all,
Recently had a family friend's 08 clubman towed in for a coolant leak. Replaced cracked crossover pipe with ECS aluminum pipe.
Went to fire up after the repair and car acted like it had a dead battery. Turns out this thing is quite the mess!
Lights work, radio works, odo button brings up display. But no action when fob is inserted into slot. No dash lights or warning lights at all.
The fob does lock/unlock the doors. Replaced key slot with no change.
Engine compartment fuses 2-5 have 0-2 volts at different times during testing. All other fuses look good. Tried different main batteries.
One of the main relays alone in a black case in the engine compartment (I believe to be the feed for fuses 2-5?) Is not getting any voltage at the coil wire. Jumped relay with no change in voltage at the fuses.
Verified voltage to the CAS, but not ruling out any modules being bad just yet.
On top of the main no start issue, I found a 4 wire connector by the glove box that has been cut on both sides. Maybe airbag? Can anyone identify please.
Also, a dangling connector on the passenger side behind and under the door. Any identification there?
I have been researching quite a bit about these symptoms and they range from fobs, to modules, to failed censors or components.
The owners mentioned that quite often the car would not start and act like a dead battery and they would apply pressure to the fob sometimes to get it to work, other times no change.
Can the dealer verify the fobs ability to transmit even if it is unlocking and locking the doors fine? Battery checks out at 3v.
Also, my generic OBD reader is not able to pull codes being as the ign cant be turned on. Do the mini specific scanners im reading about pull codes from a car without ign?
Trying to think of last minute checks before we send in the modules and fob for diagnoses.

The dangling cable under the car is either the break pad sensor or the ABS sensor, or both. Both important though it is possible the previous owner was tired of replacing the break pad sensor (due to cost) and disabled the sensor by connecting the wires forward (maybe by the fuse box?).
the car will lock and unlock but once inserted, nothing happens. The dealer should be able to verify that by putting the fob in a coil to read it. Once it fails to detect the fob, they'll know it's bad.
for more options, send me a PM if you're in the states. and
Not sure how I ruled out the fob earlier than I should have! I assumed the lock/unlock functions verified Fob operation.
$350 later at the stealership for a new fob and the car fired right up!
The glove box plug turned out to be a cut airbag connector and the passenger airbag pigtail is cut too. Weird. They don't want to mess with it at this time I guess.
And yes, the wires underneath I conformconfirmed were pad wear sensor wires.
Brake light and airbag light are on full time, go figure. All engine codes are off though and sending it on its way.
