Rear wiper has gone mental

Howdy folks.. member since 2014, have had the mini since 2014 (it's a 2013 R56 mcs manual gearbox, 124,xxx miles).. and never had need of forum wisdom.. 'til now. This is my 1st post.. heh. I've pretty much given up all forums, as a rule. This is a special case, a dire need, so here we are.

The rear wiper has gone mental. You know how normally if you select the "single wipe" it gives you a "single wipe".... except if you're in reverse, and then it wipes all the time as long as you're in reverse?

About a month ago, it went crazy. Now, when I select "single wipe" (or run to the top Wash position, or all the way down to the other Wash position) it gives you like six wipes, then stops.. wherever. Could be where it should stop, could be straight up, or 10 o' clock, or 2 o'clock.. you get the idea.

First time, I pulled battery power and that fixed it.. for like 2 weeks. It's back to it's insanity, and pulling battery isn't helping anymore.

It's going to the dealer Monday, but I'd like to know if anyone's ran into this before. I can't find anything like it by searching here, or google, or anywhere.

I'm suspecting it thinks it's always in Reverse gear now. But that wouldn't make it stop in odd places, would it?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's a possibility that the combination switch might be faulty......Have you ever removed the arms for anything....

Thank you for your reply!

No, that I know of, the arms have never been off. This was working just perfectly up until maybe a month ago, and my car was last worked on sometime around October last year -- and that work was nowhere near the rear hatch, it was a dealer oil change.

Then in that case I'd pull of the rear hatch cover and check out the connections it's also a possibility that wiper motor is on the way out....

'twas the motor. Replaced under extended warranty. These modern cars, they kill me In all my decades of motoring I've never had a wiper motor go out on me (and this motor ran, it was just all jacked up and weird)

Thanks for your replies, I appreciate them.
