New (to me) Clubman R55, some questions

Ok, got the new 2012 clubman and have a couple of questions, it's a bit different than the 2011 so I'm learning new stuff.
  • It appears the (replaceable) battery on one of my remotes is dead. Once I get the new one is there anything I have to do to make it work? (e.g. when I replaced the battery in my Saab remote I had to press the open button 4 times and then it would work) the key starts the car but won't open the door
  • I'm learning about the keyless start and the pushbutton access on the door handle. But when I don't lock the car in the garage and get in the next day, the keyless start does not work unless I lock/unlock the car from the key. Is that correct? Do I always have to unlock the car in order for the keyless start to work?
  • On the GPS system, sometimes when I start the car it goes right back to the map view (which I would like as a default) but sometimes it does not and lands on the menu screen. I've not figured out the algorithm yet as to why it does one or the other. Anyone know?
  • Is there a way to update the maps in the GPS. A free download would be best, but I might be willing to pay to get it updated. It appears that it's the original version installed in the car in 2012.

thanks all

Congrats on your new Clubman!

As for the key battery, I believe yours is like mine in my 2014 where its a rechargeable battery in the FOB. You charge it by driving with it in the ignition. If that battery has died, you can replace it with a little soldering work (
)

Once your fob is charged, I suspect your lock/unlock before you start the car problem will go away. I have definitely left my car unlocked over night and come back and got in and started it without having to cycle the door locks.

Can't help you with GPS, don't have it,

my fob has a replaceable battery, there is a small cover that comes off. (in fact both of them are this way). I've ordered some replacements and they will be here in a day or so But it's good to know that once charged I don't have to do anything.

The comfort access fobs are built differently from the normal fobs. The comfort access fobs have a replaceable battery and are not rechargeable.

ah.... I see. I knew the old fobs from my now dead '11 did not have replaceable batteries and just thought that I'd attribute the difference to the model year.

BTW, anyone want one of the sealed fobs? When the '11 got totaled I was left with the extra fob, which was only about 6 months old. Free to anyone who pays for shipping.
