License Plate Lights Wiring

Hello!

I have been getting my 2010 mini convertible S ready for the nice weather here in Iowa (hopefully coming soon). Since I've owned this car I have had the light bulb out notification and I'm trying to finally resolve it. I looked at the indication code and it reported CC-ID-371 from my searching should be the license plate lights. Well my upon initial inspection, both lights were on and working? I saw they were dim so thought; maybe one was going bad, there wasn't good connection, or some issue with the bulbs or retention clips. I got the multimeter out and measured across both the left and right plus and minus terminals. Both sides had identically bad measurements of 2.7V. Next step I took the trunk handle off and disconnected the three wire plug to measure there, again measured 2.7V. To verify that this isn't a bad ground, I measured the trunk release switch to the same ground wire and that shows a good 12.1V so I know the ground isn't the problem.

Can someone please tell me how the positive wire for the license plate bulbs is routed through the car back to the body control module?

My thoughts on what the issue could be is:
1) There is a break in the wire and it is barely connected leading to the big voltage drop. However with the lightbulbs pulled, I would think the open circuit would have measured 12V??
2) Faulty body control module.
3) Something else completely unknown to me...

Thanks in advance for any help!

If you're getting a light bulb out notification and it seems that all bulbs are working, your Footwell Module may have erased itself.

Happened to me.

Hello, maybe a break in the harness and/or water problem? Possible water and then the trunk lid grip. On the grips if they are factory painted the color of the car, you just get a new one and swap the outside from the old to new. The bulbs holders tend to corrode on the inside of the handle from water and then can cause a dimming or bulb out issues.

But since you measured at the plug in the trunk itself, my guess a break in the harness at the pivot point to the trunk.
