2004 cooper s supercharger recommendations

Hello All,

I have a 2004 mini cooper s, that I have had for less then a year, it started making a noise which initially I thought was a pulley. As the car started over heating I realized it was the water pump got it home, took off the old water pump noticed the gears that connect the water pump to the supercharger were broken. I have to rebuild the supercharger who do you guys suggest I use, I suppose I could also buy a used unit. If I sent it out I think it would make more sense to get a 17% pulley put on but if I am correct I would need a tune. I live in the Washington DC metro area so if anyone knows a local place that could help with the rebuild that would be awesome. Any suggestions would be great I am trying to figure out what the best plan of action would be.

Thanks

Benny

My old SC was worn out and very noisy. I got a newer used version from a guy recommended by another NAM member. Here is his number +1 (330) 550-8719

I forgot his name but he has more used SCs available. And he owns multiple minis so he knows what he’s talking about

I looked high and low for a rebuilder but never found one w a great reputation. Way over at Way Motor Works told me he doesn’t bother to get SCs rebuilt. Said they always fail. Only does w new now (available on his site for $$$$)

Good luck

Does anyone have long term experience with their rebuilt superchargers?

I have a remanufactured supercharger purchased from Detroit Tuned on my R53 now. Their customer service has been phenomenal but I am currently on my 3rd supercharger after the previous 2 failed under their warranty. The first supercharger went 2300 miles until it began rattling, the second made it a little over 7000 miles before the death rattle and the one on my car now has only been on a couple of months. As I said, Detroit Tuned has been very good in standing behind their warranty but I would rather not be replacing my supercharger every year or so.

By the way, I had DT ship my supercharger with a 17% pulley installed for an extra fee. That was well worth it - it really woke up the car. 17% pulley does not require a tune but it is recommended to install 1 step colder spark plugs and you'll probably need a shorter serpentine belt. I purchased all that as a package with my initial supercharger purchase from DT a couple years ago.

Port the boost tube and facelift sc...trust me , you'll be happy..with a 19% pulley ITS NOT overboosting it or over spinning the waterpump or any other b.s myths people pass around.. I've run a 20% too befor and that too was fine , though imo best suited for an auto because it can't rev out like a manual and itle get higher boost at lower rpms.
but trust me , my Sprintex isnt that much better than this stock ported setup with a 19% pulley.
Btw , I have a 04 sc forsale. It came off my personal car and was only ever run in stock form.. lmk if your interested, ille let you have it half the price of anywhere else..it also has new sc oil in it too. I could even Port this sc and ic horns too for an additional price..

There isn't any service recommendations, another one of those life time oil things they pawn off. I'm thinking every 50 thousand for mine.
