Drivetrain R53 Tuning in SE USA
R53 Tuning in SE USA
Does anyone have a tuner they like to use anywhere around Georgia, SC, NC, or Tennessee? Looking to get my r53 mapped, but it seems like everything’s on the other side of the pond.
It has thumper TPR1 head, TPR401 cam, ported inlet manifold, Volvo 380cc injectors, 15% pulley, DDM intake, and Invidia catback.

He's probably tuned the majority of first Gen cars on this, forum that have tunes. He's in Europe, but don't let that stop you. Do a search-you won't find anything negative, other than a rant by someone who is impatient.
Does he do actual tuning sessions for specific mods? I thought he only did like a pre made map that was a bit more aggressive than the OE map

^^^ Aha, thanks for clarifying that. I just now checked and @adriancl has not been banned, which would have been inexplicable. Most of his limited posting content on NAM since 2013 has been in response to related topics including DIY tutorials using INPA such as in this topic. Yes, I'm one of his more recent satisfied customers with successful remote tune provided earlier this year.
I also agree with NC Trackrat's suggestion of Way Motor Works based in Atlanta. WMW's JCW-spec tune (here) appealed to me, however total cost (including roundtrip postage) dissuaded. Your location could avoid shipment by arranging that service work by appointment. I preferred one-on-one interaction to achieve my own objectives of optimal engine efficiency with my known (and unknown) mods vs peak performance. Pretty sure the canned JCW tune would have sufficed but my remote tuning results were spot-on. Good luck with your own choice...

My apologies for not recognizing you were new to the forum. I assumed everyone knew Adrian. In full transparency I was pretty skeptical. I read a lot that sounded too good to be true. When I finished my recent mods I had to have a tune. I didn't want a canned tune and am on the opposite corner of the map from WMW. If I was near him and could schedule an in person custom tune I would have done so. Way has been a huge help to me over the past several years in my build. But since that wasn't remotely feasible, and after a bunch of research, I gave Adrian a try. I was very pleased with the outcome. You can't go wrong with either option.

I don't know how far away you are from Atlanta but I set up an appointment with Way, drove 5 hours to his shop, then to his dyno facility where he did the tune with at least 8 pulls to ensure optimum results, then drove back home...all in a day's time. Well worth the time and effort.
I did not use the stock #. I used the Detroit Tuned website MINI Cooper Belt (detroittuned.com) to select K060539. Works well. FWIW, I tried to run the K060535 for 15% pulley, and my car didn't like it at all. 6 mm doesn't seem like much, but I was slipping like crazy.
But custom dyno tuning has a lot more time involved so at this time we are not doing dyno tunes, unless we have done the entire build.
Since we are scheduling service work weeks out, we have to get caught up on the normal daily service work, before we can take time away from the shop to go to the dyno for a tune.
Incorrect we DO still do tuning as we do our standard tunes on cars in the shop all the time and people send us ECUs weekly.
