Hey I’m Steven I own a 2008 MCS R56 wN14. sorry to be posting on a topic that seems to be a regular occurrence but I’m utterly lost.
I have read countess topics stating that if the windows and ac do not work and no fuses are blown the FRM seems to be at fault. I was so convinced that I sent it to ecs and they sent it back stating no problems.
The windows will not roll up nor down with the switches, but I can get them to roll up and down with my Schwaben scanner. The ac will not work at all. I checked every fuse in the car and everything is fine. The scanner will test certain modules but will not read any codes and states no communication present. I have a scan gauge in the car that reads temp, volts etc. The obd2 is receiving power but will not read codes on the Schwaben 510 elite.
When opening and shutting the doors, the windows will drop and rise back up like they always do, but will not work with the switches. The ac is just dead with no power on the display or switches but no blown fuses.
This all began when the vehicle set for 6 months and the battery ran down to nothing due to a charger being plugged in. Replaced the battery with a slightly bigger one. 65 cc amps.
On my cluster behind the steering wheel I have a yellow brake light, a triangle with a circle around it, an an ABS light, on the center one I have the car red on a lift, another abs light, and a red air bag light. My speedo has a tire sensor light and a red air bag light.
I am at my wits end because every thread I read that sounds close to mine states it’s your FRM but ecs says no. Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated because I’m lost.
What does FRM stand for? My windows and everything inside is not working. I just ordered another footwell module and hope this will fix my multiple issues that I am currently having.
I had the same problem what you're having with the windows not working and all other host of problems such as losing my Tachometer, speedometer, door chime, dash lights, blinker indicator, wipers, fan blower, fuel gauge, radio, power door locks....Not even my A/C wasn't working because the A/C button won't light up when pressed. So, after looking at the schematics from the Bentley Publishing service manual, all of the problems I have mentioned above all end up to the FRM body control module and so I took a chance and gambled by getting a used one from E-bay and voila, all systems came back to life.
FRM body control module that came out of my '07 MCS R-56 N14...... was cooked and shorted out
So, after looking at the schematics from the Bentley Publishing service manual, all o
Vanski I’ve thought of doing the same. ECS sent me a video of the computer working on their test car rolling windows up etc and it tested fine, but I am at my wits end trying to follow and figure it out. Everything does point to it. I’m at a loss as to why the windows operate when opening closing doors, rolling up and down on the scanner but nothing on both switches. If I purchase a used one, does it need to be coded for my car or would it do the minimums to atleast show me it works, if it works…. Thank you for the reply!
As long as the serial/part number matches your old one, NO PROGRAMMING is needed. However if you can't find the exact same one with the serial/part number on E-bay, then programming is needed which any import repair shop that has a thousand dollar scan tool can program the FRM module for a small nominal fee. As for getting it out, it's quite easy as you need to remove the kick panel from the left footwell right by the hood latch release and disconnect 3 harnesses..... Let me know the end result as I am curious to find out.
This is the serial/part number you need to look for in order to avoid programming These programmers don't come cheap
Who sent you the video, was it ECS Tuning? I hoping the video wasn't talking about the DME because that controls the engine and not the accessories and I am assuming your engine is running ok?
Sorry it has been a bit since I was able to respond. Back at work in west Texas.
It was the FRM that they tested and sent the video back showing everything that was working. I just really am at a loss. I can turn the modules on and roll up the windows but the switches and the ac are dead. I’m also wondering why I can talk to the modules but cannot establish communication with the tool to check codes? Anyone else had this craziness?
Thank you Vanski for all of the info and pics!!
Your FRM needs to be "CODED" eventhough everything was checked out fine. Your ordinary OBDII scan tool cannot communicate with any of the modules. They're not designed to talk to each other
