Automatic transmission fluid replacement

Has anyone done an ATF drain/refill on an F54? I can't seem to come across any info about the 8-speed other than fluid type (ATF 6). Is there a drain plug, pan, filter, filler plug? I have 55k miles on my car and would just feel a lot better getting some new fluid in there. Thanks for any info

I know this is old and in case you still haven't done this, there is a pretty good Reddit write up on how to do this.

Good timing! Just about time to do the ATF swap on mine. Thanks for the info.

Hers a tip.
ALWAYS remove the fill plug first. If you do it after the Darin plug, and it strips, you have no way to fill, unless you do the
fill through the drain plug with the overflow pipe installed.

Make sure you have a T55 for the fill plug, a T40 for the drain plug and a 17mm male hex for the secondary drain plug. You will also need o-rings and crush washers for the plugs when you reinstall them, get these from the dealer.

The lower engine cover must be removed to get to the drain and the air box removed to get to the fill plug.

I measured the amount of fluid that came out and put the same amount back in, drove it for a few weeks then did it again.

Thanks for the link. I found that a while ago and changed the tranny fluid over the summer. I figured out that the easiest way to change the fluid is to pull the overflow plug and measure how much comes out. I think I ended up with 24 oz. I then pulled the drain plug, drained, and refilled until fluid came out of the overflow. I replaced the overflow plug and then added another 24 oz.

With an overflow setup, you fill until it runs out fo the overflow. With the engine running......... No more.
The temperature is measured with a scan tool.

You are right, my method is not the "correct" way to do it. But I don't really have a safe way at my house to get the car off of the ground and level while running in Drive and be able to get underneath to properly fill it. I put the same amount back in that I drained out, so it's gotta be real close if it's not exactly right
