Roof rubbing roll bar

I did some searching but didn't find the answer in other threads. So here's my post.

I notice the front of the roof rubbing one side of the roll bar when going up and/or down. When pushing and pulling things I noticed that side also has play in it. I can move the top a few millimeters front to back - see video.

Can someone advise on how this can be fixed? From reading past posts it sounds like it may be a loose cable?

EDIT 3/22/2022: I can't find a way to post a new video from my iphone... I did some more looking and discovered that a plastic guide is missing from the Left side mechanism causing play and rubbing as mentioned above. The part circled in the image below is the one that is missing. Now trying to find someone with a spare part. Perhaps from a broken mechanism that was replaced? Let me know. I did post a wanted in the "New Market Place" but that place is a mess since the new owners of this site broke it.

I'm watching the 4 part video that was also linked in the thread but getting a little motion sick watching it...

Made it through the 4 videos.

Would you think one of the cables is loose at the front like in the videos?

Bryan and/or Mike, could you take a look at my video (added in the first post) and let me know if this might be a loose cable issue? Or maybe a gear/motor issue? The issues that the videos detail seem like a different problem.

Thanks!

I have so substantial advice to give here....I'm not really all that smart on the workings of the convertible top operation on these cars

Yep, mine does not move like that when open. Its pretty tight if I remember right. Something is loose (cable stretch?) or not latched.

If the weather is decent here within the next few days, I will go check my '06 R52 and see if it moves like yours does....

Update: I haven't seen my car since last fall as its 1-1/2 hours away in storage, but I was reviewing another video I took last fall (unfortunately it won't upload here) and it shows a small plastic part in the mechanism is missing. See post 1 for that detail. Unfortunately that part isn't sold separately, nor even the whole mechanism sold per side. Its only sold as a pair for over $500. Ouch! So I'll try to find a used part. Hopefully this does the trick.

Has anyone else seen this happen?

Yep, i saw one of those fall off the last set i had before the new cables were replaced on mine. We do have them in stock and free shipping. Mine was out of warranty and at the time before i worked here at ECS, i paid like 700 as the price was higher at the time. I am on my 2nd set and they have lasted way beyond the originals. I cleaned my rails and greased them and they have lasted over 170,000 miles. I am at almost 290K on my convertible. So the new sets last, you just got to grease and lube the top once a year from the outside.
