struts for lift gate

I recently replaced the gas struts for my lift gate on my 2006 R53

ECCPP brand of Amazon

21.65 x 2.95 x 1.38 inches
Item model number 052658-5211-1106329188
Manufacturer Part Number 052658-5211-1106329188

The gate is now very difficult to close. The struts appear to be the right length but require a lot of force ( 2 hands) to close the gate

Anyone have better success with a different brand of strut?

Randy

The rear struts should be:

Force [N]:330
Length (mm):498

I replaced mine with Maxpow struts, it does require more force to close but the liftgate opens on it's own and doesn't shake the car. It will shake the rear if you have the hatch closed halfway and let it go free, but from the closed state to open it's fine. Eventually the new struts will wear down with time so it won't be as hard to close.

I ordered struts by Boxi which are approx 2” shorter than the ECCPP. Hope that works

The ECCPP struts are very difficult to close . I measured with a luggage scale and got 22# to close hatch. I tried a set of Boxi lifts and got 15# to close. Big improvement

I tried the second set because Amazon incorrectly lists the wrong length for the ECCPP and I thought shorter struts would be easier. Both brands are the same length but I got the result I wanted.

Yep, got to watch those one on amazon and ebay, most of the time they have the fitments mixed up between models or its not the correct length or NM newton meters.
