R52 P0172 after upgrading injectors
P0172 after upgrading injectors
Hello, everyone! I have a 2006 Mini Cooper S Convertible that was getting awful mileage, around 20mpg. I got some upgrade Bosch 550cc injectors and installed them. The car is now getting 42mpg with this change and runs fine, but my service engine light keeps coming on with a P0172 code, which indicates the air fuel mixture needs to be adjusted, or tuned. I have an Autel MaxiCOM MK808BT, but it tells me that the injector function isn't available for this car. Does anyone know what system I need to do a tune on the injectors to stop this code? I am familiar with how to do this, but do not know what system will gain me access to this part of the ECU. I appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.
Wow 42 mgp I'm getting around 27 mgp w/my 04 MCS and from what I 've read is about normal. I'm running with the JCW Bosch 380cc injectors. The stock injectors are 330cc so going to 550cc is a substantial change and will require a re-tune to remap the fuel tables.
Yes Sir, it does require a re-tune of the fuel tables. I am looking for a way to access those so I can do so. But I might just take it in to the dealer and let them do it since it is difficult to find out what equipment I need to do it myself. The stock on my car was the 380cc injectors. I knew they were either going bad or clogged so I chose the upgrade. The mileage jump was amazing, but I started getting that pesky check engine light right afterwards.
DME tuning options for the R53 are pretty slim. The only sort of self-contained tool I know of is the one from Bytetronik. There are a few shops around the country that do tunes, and then adriancl seems to have figured out most of the tables himself so he can tune using - I think - MPPS.
I doubt that a dealer will be able to fix your fueling with 550 cc injectors, but I don't know for sure.
Did you actually calculate your mileage, or did you just look at the OBC? 42 mpg with no tune on 550 cc injectors sounds really fishy.
