2005 mini cooper s deivers door key turns 360 in door problem.

Good afternoon, my 2005 mini cooper s drivers door handle mechanism has a problem when you put the key in to lock it. It broke and the key turns freely 360 degrees but will not lock or unlock the car. Is this a simple fix? I have a shop manual for the car, but is vague on what to do with the car. I am not sure if something came loose, or what. I am going to pull the door panel off this weekend and take a look inside the door to see if there is anything loose. Has anyone had this problem before?

Sounds like its broken and the tumbler inside stops at a point.

Take it off and look at, if its truely broken.

MINI door locks don’t seem to be very strong and often break if used with a key daily. The door lock actuators often fail too. Is this the reason you’re using the key manually, or is it an issue with the remote?

good afternoon, I am down to 1 key fob. My second one died (battery) had no idea you had to retate them as the battery charged while driving. My second fob battery is holding out, but will not remotely open doors. Found out the dealer wants $375.00 for new one. Was manually locking doir till it broke. Just spins. Will take the door apart this weekend to see what is wrong. Thsnk you for your reply. Will let you know what I find.

You might just need to re-pair the key fob to the remote receiver. The video below shows how to do this for a 2005 and later gen 1 MINI.

You can also replace the battery in your other remote if your handy, or you can contact someone like Valvashon here on the forum for info on getting your battery replaced. He started a repair service which includes replacing the soldered in rechargeable batteries in the three button key fobs. Some info is here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...mini-keys.html

What was the solution here? I have the same issue and a broke/dead fob that had been in "manual mode" for some time. Doors lock with central lock but key spins in the handle...
