R60 Countryman Timing Chain Replaced

Countryman Timing Chain Replaced

I just bought a 2012 Countryman S that I had to replace the timing chain and guides. I finished the job, cleared all codes and I ran the car for 1 minute.
The engine was surging between 1000 and 1500 rpms. it stalled after about 1 minute. These were some of the same codes I was getting before I changed the chain, guides and tensioner.
When I took the tensioner out, it fell apart in my hand. The guides were broken. I found about a dozen pieces in the oil pump and pan.
I replaced the crank and camshaft bolts.
When I finished, I turned the engine over twice and checked the timing marks and the flywheel position and they were all perfect.
I scanned the car and got these codes...
P1338 - Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 1 Open Circuit Or Short To Positive
P0300 - Random/Multiple Misfires
P0301 - Misfire Cyl 1
P0303 - Misfire Cyl 3
P1339 - Crankshaft Position/Engine Speed Sensor Cross Connected

I was told if the chain is off, there is a communication issue between the crankshaft and camshaft. Does the computer have to be reset for this to go away? I saw in a video the guy 'Reset The Adaptive Variable Camshaft Timing Control'.
Any help would be great.

I may not have answers for your issues I can only say that I did not have to reset anything computer wise except the codes I had.
But
I replaced my head gasket and the timing chain just happened to be along the way.

I screwed up. I had a ratchet on the crank pulley to help line it up while I was underneath trying to get the flywheel pin in. I finished the job, went to start it and heard a clunk.
I had forgotten to take the ratchet off the crank and when the motor rotated, it loosened the crank bolt causing the valves to hit and bend. Compression in the cylinders are, 50, 50 150, 65.
I'll pull the head and see what other damage there is.
Do I have to get new crank and cam bolts again?

Man that's heartbreaking!

The cam and crank bolts are stretch bolts, so for sure you will want to replace them. They aren't very expensive though, even from the dealer.

Sad to say that will be the least of your costs it sounds like. It would be interesting to get one of those cheap endoscopes and see what your pistons/valves look like. Hopefully it's just the valves and the pistons/cylinders are ok.

You need to change your VVT solenoids 1 each exhaust and intake this will clear the code automatically once these are replaced your valve timing gets adjusted with these solenoids. I picked this up off amazon real quick and the car runs super!
