"Certified Pre-Owned MINI" - any experience with it?

hi - I'm curious how useful the "Certified Pre-Owned MINI" program is.

I see that they have a checkout sheet, but I don't see what if any repairs it's actually covering? I'm interested to hear any experience you have had buying a used mini that was listed in the "Certified Pre-Owned MINI" program and if you found it useful.

thx

I bought my first Clubman as CPO. The dealer will go through the car to verify condition, then verify the history, then they have to pay Mini to certify the car into the program. It extends the factory warranty coverage, so no third party warranty service that you have to fight with to get coverage. You just have to take it to any Mini dealer for warranty work.

Thanks for that njaremka. So I guess the follow on question for me is how well they honor those their warranty and if they allow you to do your own maintenance, like your own oil changes? I ask, mainly because I'm a 45 minute drive to the closest mini dealer.

I would do your own oil changes at 5000 mile intervals, and take it to the dealer for the "indicated" oil change service light (should be every 6 months or so) just so they can do their 'once over' on a regular basis. That's what I did with my CPO, and I was able to get the HPFP and water pump replaced under warranty from their technician inspection.

Yeah you can take it to the dealer but not if the dealer ends up closing. We ended up purchasing the extended maintenance package for our CM, dealer belly up'd a month later. Now I have to drive over an hour to the next dealership to get service when used to be just a 10 minute drive.

Last I knew, the warranty better than a new car.....They're usually former leased vehicles which have gone under BMW's ( strict ) multi-point inspection...
