R60 R60 Blower Motor Speed/Resistor
R60 Blower Motor Speed/Resistor
I have a 2013 R60 ALL4 S. There are a number of older posts on the issue of the blower resistor and the symptoms of a bad one, but my symptoms are not exactly as described in the other posts so please pardon the new post. Those symptoms are:
1. The fan works
2. The lower speeds in the range work, say the first three
3. After the first three, the display moves up in the range to the highest setting, BUT
4. The actual fan speed does not go higher than the lower speeds (see #2)
5. Every once in while, the problem goes away and the full range of fan speed works fine, then the next day it doesn't, and it stays that way.
I'd be grateful for some input on this issue. Thanks

How old is your battery? Do you see any warnings when you start describing Excessive Battery Discharge? What you describe is exactly the symptoms I experienced before replacing my battery, especially on colder days. When a weak battery is detected apparently some functions are reduced to conserve power.

Thanks for the reply. Battery is original, says BMW on it. LOL, I bought it from a neighbor last year. I have no other issues or symptoms, no warnings and car starts fine. Dumb question b/c you had the same issue...did you replace the battery, and did the problem go away?
I replaced (and registered) the battery and the issue went away. I live in a cold climate so installed a trickle charger for the coldest winter days, have had (almost) no issues.
If you replace the battery can go bigger than original as I find the Mini is a bit of a power hog. Lots of info on registering the battery on this site if you have the circuitry on your negative cable.

Thanks and will do. I have a Carly OBD2 Adapter so I should be able to do the battery registration. I thought this was good: https://stevendiver.com/2019/12/06/h...y-replacement/ Thanks again.
My original battery was a Group 47, replaced with a 48, a bit bigger and fits well, were both 70 amp hour. Procedure looks good, do need to remove the passenger wiper arm on R60 but easy enough.

Good to know. Can you tell me specifically what brand and model number you purchased? By the way, I re-registered the battery using the OBD reader and software, and so far the problem is solved. That said, the battery is seven years old and due for a replacement. I’ve not had any error messages so any kind, or any issues whatsoever starting the car. It has gone down to the 30s at night here, it doesn’t get generally too much colder than it on a regular basis. We shall see. Thanks again.

Battery brand not applicable as I live in Canada...it is an AGM battery size 48 (H6/L3) - 760 CCA and 70 amp hour.
Batteries only last 4-5 years where I live but significantly colder...-40 a few days ago!
