No alarm no satellite radio in 2018 MCS
I just purchased a pristine 2018 MCS from a dealer with only 6900miles. To my surprise it has no alarm or satellite radio. The finance person told me Mini no longer puts alarms in their cars! But Mini USA sells an alarm for $140. My question: does the Mini come prewired for satellite radio and alarm?
wellllll ... yes ... no .... maybe
gone are the days when you could look at the long list of options for your MINI (p.s. MINI not Mini ... different animals) and pick just about anything you'd like on yours. Today like most other makes your option choices are pre made for you based on the 'trim level' you choose. Classic, Signature or Iconic ..... your answers lie buried somewhat in the 'build your MINI' section on MINIUSA.COM and comparing what's included in a trim level (and each step UP includes everything from lower levels) AND what's available as an option
So if you build today a 2 door hardtop S:
With classic trim SIRIUS is offered as a $300 option. <I believe all US MINI are 'wired for' SIRIUS but the receiver is not installed unless ordered; unlike MANY other cars out there which include Sirius and Apple Carplay as standard equipment> No Alarm is in the basic options list.
Step up to signature and Sirius is an option as part of the Premium package for $1750 which gets you HK audio and Sirius, basic builder does not offer these separately but that may just be a limitation of the software on the builder. ALARM is $500 add on ...
ICON INCLUDES the premium pack (Sirius and HK) and the alarm remains $500 optional .....
The experience may be different if you actually sit down to place an order .... I dunno as every one of my MINI have been bought off the lot .... 02S, 07S, 15R59S and 19Cooper soft top Signature
dunno where you are seeing a MINI alarm for $140 ... I see one on MINI USA for $MORE but if you dig it is only available for a subset of years and models ....
You could probably buy the Sirius receiver from MINI and get it installed but given what MINI charges for any 'reprogramming' required to add the Sirius I'd SERIOUSLY consider talking to a decent audio shop to compare. You can get a car system for free from SIRIUS with a new subscription and/or with the phone app, you could listen thru the phone via bluetooth or an AUX cord ......

Depending on what headunit your car came with from the factory, it may be possible to activate Sirius for far less money than the dealer would charge. If you pm me your VIN, I'll let you know if I can help.
unsolicited comment:
In Maine you need an alarm? The car already has an 'immobilizer' which in theory makes the car unusable with out the key.
if seeking an insurance discount I recommend discussing with your insurance company b4 spending $. IME you get the same discount for an alarm as you get for having your windows 'etched' with the VIN and that discount may have already have been applied due to the 'immobilizer' .....
I live in Florida ... alarms are history .... web cameras with memory are the thing now ..... play back and show the cops pictures of your perp'
