R53 Front Speaker Mounting Depth - Help! (Searched...)

Hello!

I've tried searching here and in another of other forums, but haven't been able to find a definitive answer. I'm hoping to upgrade the speakers in my '04 MCS JCW MC40 with some higher-end speakers than the typical name brands, but I'm struggling to find a clear answer on the front speaker mounting depth. As I understand it, the window rolls down behind the speaker, so the clearance can be tight.

Does anyone know the true answer on this? The speakers I'm hoping to use have a mounting depth of 2.75," and I can't tell if those will fit - with or without spacers.

Has anyone measured the available mounting depth before? Thanks so much in advance!

Check out Crutchfield. I just types in my Mini and answered some questions and they gave me compatible speakers. Also free mounts and wiring adapters.

No, not wiring adapters. They show them on the website, but they don't come with them- you'll need to cut/splice the speaker wires.

Did this swap last week.

BE SURE you don't do what I did and fasten the speakers with the terminals j u s t b a r e l y touching the metal door panel and sometimes shorting out. No serious damage, just a troubleshooting nuisance.

I'm happy.

I bought the Polk DB652 and they're just fine- certainly better than the factory speakers that had no foam left at all. Sound could be better it I changed the HU, added an amp, used component speakers, ran giant 2/0 red shiny cables to a 2 farad neon capacitor, etc, etc.

But I'm well over 19 years old.

I'm still considering swapping out the 6x9 rears.
