First post in this forum. Loving my 09 clubman so far. Has anyone upgraded their headlights with LED? I know at some point I’m probably going to have change the whole assembly out as the internal wiring insulation has dry rotted and fallen apart over the years. I kept getting an exterior bulb malfunction and that’s when I realized that the wires were shorting out to each other. Everything I’ve gathered that is just throwing an LED bulb in the in the existing assembly wouldn’t work because of the projection difference. Have also read if you just change to a LED bulb, you’ll have to install an inline harness resistor for the power draw. So basically I’m wanting to know if anyone has changed their assemblies out and what they went with. And or if you just changed out the bulbs to led what did you use?

 

You're right, installing a LED's in your current housings doesn't result in good lighting. I've done it with an R50 and went back to good halogen bulbs.

You have some good aftermarket alternatives - take a look at ECSTuning and Outmotoring. In fact, they may be more cost effective than trying to find an OEM Xenon setup. When you look at the listings, read them in detail because some of them look like Xenon/LED but are actually halogen.

Lastly, as you mention, you may have some issues with your current wiring. I'd resolve that before you make any other changes. If you go with an aftermarket setup, you may not have to make any changes to your wiring. Let us know what you decide to do.
