Replaced GP3 Center Console to Remove Armrest

One of the things I hated about my 2019 MINI JCW International Orange Edition was that STUPID Center Armrest.

It does not hold or charge my phone, it is not comfortable, gets in the way of the parking brake handle, makes it hard to operate the I-Drive and to shift the manual.

I had the dealer remove the center console in that car a couple years ago and replace it with a non-armrest laden factory center console.

This past week, I had the dealer change out the center console in my GP3 too. It make driving the GP3 much more enjoyable.

Part Number 51-16-9-266-622 List Price $116.90. About $150 labor to install.

I highly recommend this modification.

Yep, we had people do this on F56 a while back. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-part-1-a.html

Yea, that is one of my pet peeves (the other is my R50's clock displaying zero o'clock). The type of gross stupidity that just makes you dream of whacking the designers at MINI with a 2x4.

I really don't understand why MINI hasn't made any attempt (like at a facelift time) to rework the center armrest to actually hold today's smart phones (sometimes called phablets). My current android phone, and the two before that, can't even fit.

My phone wouldn't fit with the case on so I just broke out the Dremel and ground down the plastic bumps that hold the Iphone in place. Worked perfectly, now I just have to remember to take my phone out the center console everytime I get out, haha.
