N18 S turbo upgrade - exhaust manifold Q

Hi all, as above I'm looking to upgrade my Cooper S turbo. Do I need to bother with changing the manifold? Seen misleading info as to whether the JCW is worth it, especially N14 ones which are more easily available.

Not chasing huge numbers, a solid 240whp would do me fine.

Cheers...

I have a a JCW turbo on my 09 MCS with the OEM manifold. I would think you need to go bigger for 280 whp though.

I have an RPM stage 3 tune and was told about 250 whp has been seen.

I bet you’d see better advantage from port matching the manifold to the head, and port matching to the turbine housing. Nothing magical in the “JCW” manifold compared to the Cooper S manifold.

Aw damn, sorry - 280bhp, so more like 240 whp. Will edit the OP.

Thanks though, seems like should get there comfortably in stock manifold

then you should get that. But you need stage 3 supporting mods. I saw a post on either this site or on Facebook where a guy dyno’d right around 245 whp with a jcw turbo and basically the same mods i have and same RPM stage 3 tune
