Key Fobs No Longer Unlock/Lock The Car
My 2009 R56 no longer recognizes either of my key fobs when it comes to unlocking/locking the vehicle; my primary keys or my emergency ones.
They’d been slowing waning the past few days, needing 2-3 attempts to unlock/lock the car so I thought it was just a battery issue. My keys are non-rechargeable and need a 2032 battery. Yesterday, I lost the ability to unlock/lock the car with the key fob but was still otherwise able to start the ignition and unlock/lock the car with the manual key. I got home today after grocery shopping and all of a sudden my hatchback wouldn’t unlock. I changed the key fob's battery as I picked one up while shopping and still zilch. I tried my spare keys that are otherwise brand new from the dealer, even replacing the battery out of precaution, and still nothing.
I’m still able to start the car with the key fob in the ignition and unlock/lock it with the manual key. The "Key In The Ignition" indicator displays and beeps when either key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open. Nothing else electronically is out of the ordinary. I changed the MINI’s battery last February at a dealership and haven’t had an electrical issue since.
I’m not in the financial situation, due to COVID, to afford a reprogramming right now, if that’s what’s needed, if it’s going to run $500+. Is there a way I can reprogram it myself if that’s what the solution is? Is there a chance of losing the ability to start the car if I wait?
The only other thing of note is I was planning on going in for an oil change sometime in the next week or two and might need my air filters replaced; if that has any possible correlation to this.
