What is this?

Anyone know what this adjustable brace type thing is on my MCS. I'm assuming it's some sort of engine support but would appreciate some insight.

I'm planning on removing it to replace tensioner etc. Is it worth keeping?

Looks like an old Lord of the Flies engine damper that were available in red, blue, or silver.

While you’re in there, check the engine mount right next to it. They are prone to failure and all of that black stuff on the frame rail is hydraulic fluid from the mount. It could be from a previously failed mount or from the one currently in the car. Also, be careful cleaning the fluid off of the rail if you care about the paint. The paint in the engine compartment and rear hatch jambs isn’t clear coated and wipes off easily.

The engine mount has been replaced. That's just some residual gunk. Thanks!
