Water in fuse box help! R60

Hello everyone! I recently was curious and opened the fuse door located in the passenger footwell. I saw a trail of white dust coming from above down onto the fuses. I realized it was water residue and had a MINI heart attack lol I don’t have a sunroof so it can’t be that. The only 2 things I can think of is the battery cover had a tab broken. (Maybe water went tru the seal on that)? I also went thru a car wash like the ones that spray underneath. I went really slow to try and get my monies worth, maybe it was too high of pressure? I don’t know. Have any of you had this happen? What other components could I look at? I also remember that after the car wash the radio turned on by it self so idk but no other problems

Hello,

Did you let it dry out and check the footwell area and fuse box area in the lower foot wells. Possible that water got past the cowl tray or from a bad window repair.

I looked and it seems dry and it has rained since and I have not seen any water. What can I look for if the cowl tray was bad?

Ok,

Make sure that the rubber against the window which is part of these trays is ok and not damaged and dry roited/ cracked. Also the tray itself is not damaged and the snap in covers are on. They fade and crack.

Hello!
I just checked and the snap on the battery cover was broken. Can this small thing really lead to a leak? I’ve attached photos for you to check out the seal and the snap. Should I still use a automatic car wash?

Snap is broke

Looks like its sealed down and the cover should be fine and seal down. You might have a bad front window repair or maybe a door seal or someone cracked the side window down?

Check those out and till you find it i would hand wash it.

The windshield has a mini badge so I guess it is the original. I’ve check the door seals but could not find anything. The car is 8 years old but I don’t know when seals might go bad. Should I bring it into the shop? Or should I wait until it happens again and then go in. I also have roof racks I’m not sure if water could get into them.

I would hand wash and take the panel out and see where the water is coming from, the only other place is the sunroof drain tubes.

see # 2 under the sunroof, they can come off or pop off.
