I've seen a few posts about on different hitches. I prefer this design to the exposed models that attach with only 2 bolts.

With only 300lbs tongue weight, has anyone tried these types of hitches with a receiver mounted bike rack? Bike rack about 25lbs, and 2 mountain bikes at about 35 lbs each should be just fine, but there's no accounting for downward force of the weight if you hit a big jarring bump in the road. Bending the receiver...not so bad, stripping a unibody bolt thread or tweaking the unibody attaching metal....pretty bad, losing the bikes and causing an accident....really bad.

Would never pull anything with the mini, have a Jeep for that. Using the MINI to go a few hundred miles with the MTBs is appealing.

 

I wouldnt sweat it at all for bikes. Much better than strapping one of those trunk-type ones to your hatch, thats for sure.

 

That tow hitch looks plenty heavy duty for a rack with some MTB's. Nice.
