I kno oil has been covered a million times but i swore both of these oils were LL 01 approved. Neway i went to walmart to get oil today. I usually get mobil 1 5w30. I looked at the bottle and noticed it does not say LL 01 approved anymore so i checked castrol edge and same thing. I thought both were LL 01 approved. I checked there websites and both do not say they are either. i picked up the edge because it said gdi engine formula or something like that. Will this oil b ok even tho its not LL 01 approved. Or should i return it and find a different brand?

 

These are the oils that are currently approved to LL-01 by BMW. LL-01 approved oils that have been discontinued do not appear in the list.

I don't recall of Mobil 1 5w-30 ever had the LL-01 rating, but the 0w-40 did. It got dropped off a couple of years ago and Castrol 0w-40 lost the rating about a year later. Castrol 5w-40 has the LL-01 rating along with the new Pennzoil Euro 5w-40. That's what I've got in my car currently.
