As maybe you know, the Mini One 90HP R50, have same engine as R50 Cooper 115HP.Only one difference ,is about sw ,mean Mini One have downgrade sw version.Of course also gear ratio maps are different. It is a practice known to many cars manufacturers, BMW, Ford,Smart,Mercedes,VW and so on.It is much easier to make different versions of software than to produce more versions of engines.Anyway, because R50 Cooper engine is N/A engine, and as you know, power mean fuel and air, you can inject a lot of fuel, but on N/A engines you cannot introduce more air into the cylinders without expensive hw mods. For that reason, 10-12% power increase on N/A engine by sw mod is the max can get.
This practice was continued by BMW to R56 One and Cooper N/A engines.
I get on my old R50 Cooper around 140hp, but with many hw mods, mean larger throttle body, Piper cam, bigger injectors 270cc,Cold Intake, Adjustable cam vernier, exhaust valves from R53,ported head. All that only for 10hp gain.

If its a reasonable cost, Im fine with 10 more bhp for mine with just software. I dont plan to get crazy with mine, maybe a different muffler. I plan to add a K&N panel filter, but might do the DDM intake. I dont plan on doing anything else though

Do you have the ability to tune the R50 motor?

Im guessing these arent off-the-shelf chips? Also Im in California, which means our best fuel is 91 octane. Can you PM me some details on the tuning process. If its a reasonable cost I will consider it

Software, no chips. Adrian tuned my 2004 R53 and I definitely endorse him. I was running a 15% SC pulley, one-ball exhaust and a Dinan Stage 1 tune on my MC40. After discussion, Adrian provided me with an upgraded MS5150 ECU (plug&play) to go with 380cc injectors that I installed (Adrian can provide a tuned file via email if that's what you require). I made before/after dyno runs (Dynojet) to measure the difference. The addition of the ECU/380cc injectors + Adrian-tune bumped my 176hp to 193.5hp at the wheel (~220hp at the crank). It made a world of difference and the car is a blast to drive. As a result I've recommended Adrian to others on this forum who also have been very pleased with his work. PM him for details.

Thats pretty solid, do you have a pic of the dyno graph?

I think Ive heard enough to move forward with this myself, just not yet (there goes the ol "Im not modifying this car" idea)

I just want to remind early R50 owners’ (2001-2004) with Midlands transmissions or all R50’s with CVTs. These trannies are not happy with too much power! Please be careful.

starting with 115 I think there’s room for more before we get into trouble

You’re already in trouble at 115, but it sounds like religiously changing the fluid helps quite a bit.

I’ve been driving my current 2005 R50 for 15 years, 170,000 miles and lots and lots of mods. I have some experience in what I’m talking about.
