How to remove side scuttles

I want to remove the side scuttles from my 2012 All4S, but I can't find info on how to do this.
Do I need a special tool for this? I don't want to just try and yank them off with the risk of breaking stuff.

Do you mean just the lights, or the whole contraption?

I have seen references to folks painting them in place, which seems risky.

There are a number of scuttle replacements for sale, many have printed or video guides on how to install. Good luck and post pics!
