Is single din my only option?

A previous owner of my 2008 MC S convertible upgraded the audio system with Kenwood radio/cd player, new amplifier and speakers. The Kenwood is imposdible to operate while driving. Newer radios with fold up screens will not fit the car. A dbl din unit with a touch screen would be ideal. Currently there only space for a single din. Is there an upgrade kit that will make room for a dbl din in my R52?

It is a bit of DIY, but I like it a lot. A BMW E46 9" android unit.

The picture posted by Catgirl looks awesome. What model radio head and how did ypu bring it forward so it will not interfere with the ac controls below it?
