Stereo Upgrade

Just recently purchased the 2010 Mini S Mayfair Edition. The current sound system has to go....Where do I go to buy and install new speakers, radio and CD player ? Can this be done ?
Love the car, hate the sound system.....any and all suggestions are welcome.

George

Lots of threads on speakers and adding an amp. Did you get the base audio or the H-K upgrade?

The head unit is needed for the car to operate. It is also tightly integrated (not telling you anything you can't already see). People have added a second head unit and relocated the factory head unit. They have also added a second head unit to the secret compartment. There is not much benefit to either of these paths. What exactly is wrong with the radio and cd player?

Base Unit

The Mayfair Edition comes with the base radio not the Harmon Kardon. I am unable to hear the system on the highway and it is barely audible in city driving.
Terrible sound....its not that I play the radio loud, you cannot hear the system very well.

As I said, the H-K would have been an upgrade (I think $750, but I'm not sure). The base audio system doesn't have the greatest sound quality, but it should not be inaudible. Take it to the dealer and get them to check it.

The head unit and CD are the same between the two systems, but the H-K gets an amp and a better speaker system. Follow my link above and read up on upgrading the base audio system to improve sound quality.
