Speaker Size increase for 2012 Countryman S All4

Hey y'all,

I am looking to upgrade my speakers in my countryman and the Intel I've been able to gather has been kind of shoddy at best. I've seen speaker sizes all over the board and I'm unsure what to get. A lot of the threads I've found have image links to sites that don't exist anymore. My current setup is the standard 6 speaker configuration (even though my carfax says Harmon-Kardon) because there are no tweeters and no HK emblems anywhere.

So, can larger speakers be put in the countryman? I've noticed the large circle on the rear door panels, and it seems as though there are 4in speakers in there, but the circle is about 6in in diameter. Can the door panel be modified to fit a 6in speaker?

As far as the front speakers go, I want to add tweeters but I have no earthly idea where I can safely place them. I would also prefer (if possible) to get larger speakers.

I haven't been able to find much information on the under seat subwoofers though. I know that they are 8" shallow subwoofers, but they're fit inside that strange enclosure. Can I just put an 8" sub in there? Does it have to be shallow? What will I have to modify to put something custom in there? Or can I take out the enclosure and 3d print something that will work?

I've currently got the Navi package in my mini and I plan to power all the new speakers from an amp. I have been researching how to do this for a short time so I'm not entirely sure how that all works (I'll post updates as I figure it out). I obviously do not want to change out the head unit. The only aftermarket ones I've found are super super cheap looking and idk if I want some Chinese knock-off in my car.

Thank you in advance for any help. Pictures would be extremely helpful as well.

Here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...placement.html

For the stock (base) system it does not have the tweeters so people ad them, https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...r-upgrade.html

What about the 8" sub replacement?

?

That's super helpful, but I still don't know where I can find a suitable replacement for the 8" sub under the seats. The guide you linked is what I've seen, but doesn't cover the subs or wiring in an amp.

Ok,

We will have systems soon that will be direct replacements, If you hold on a week or so they will be up on the site. These will be direct replacements for the stock(non H/K) and H/K systems.

Tagging as I might be interested in this. I think my rears (hk system) might be going out. But I'd love to replace the under seat 8s, and I just got a jl 12 and Alpine amp to add the low lows....

Since the under seat woofers are not subs, you won't get a true sub experience. It can be better but never going to be the deep bass notes. I'd leave them and add a real sub with amp or powered sub first and see where you are at.

But are these 'direct replacement' set of speakers going to be any better than the stock ones?

Hey guys, back again. Do all 2012 CMS have the HK amp installed in them? I can't seem to find the amp. I want to wire in a new amp, but the photos regarding installation of a sound system in this mini are all gone.

There's a thread with "photos" but they were hosted on photobucket- a site that doesn't exist anymore, and therefore gone. I've been told that the amp hides in the passenger side rear quarter panel, but can't find conformation. I really don't wanna take this thing to a shop to get speakers installed. I don't trust anyone poking around in there.

Basically, my idea is to bypass the "factory" amp entirely, and feed the wires into an aftermarket setup and tune the speakers myself. but I can't find information on this literally anywhere

No. If you dont have the HK speakers you wont have the HK amp. It was a 'package'.

Yeah, I figured not. I'm gonna figure out how to remove the head unit so that I can splice the speakers into some RCA cables for an aftermarket amp. I was hoping there would be some sort of guide to remove the head unit in the front, but I haven't turned up anything useful yet.

I'm sure there is something out there on the internet regarding the removal of the Nav head unit. As far as my head unit specifics, I'm gonna have to track down a wiring diagram. They don't even make an RCA adapter for the R60. I almost feel like I'm trying to work on a car made of unobtainium. I'm gonna check newtis.info to see if there's a removal guide.

If there's a video out there, for the love of god, somebody link it.

When I do install this setup, I'm gonna post every damn bolt and step I take in here. A fully documented photographic guide, because all of the ones that were here before had photobucket links......... a website that doesn't exist anymore.

They likely did - but fair warning - ECS lies to their customers about product availability. I spent over two months waiting for bulbs that were 'in stock' and i had an order that was also 'in stock' be postponed to 'indefinitely unavailable - backordered' their customer service and product knowledge is definitely an acquired taste - especially if you love being frustrated, left in the dark about your order, and lied to about shipping dates.

I would highly, highly suggest buying some 4" universal adapter rings for bmw speakers, with which you can install any 4" speaker in the doors - you will need to power them with an external amp though. Ive drawn up the diagrams and i would be happy to give you a more in depth way to get the best quality speakers for your mini - just pm me about it!

We did not move forward with the vendor as we could not work out the sizes and fitment. They said it would work and then they said it would not for MINI. Hopefully in the future we will have something.

You can always reach out to me, with current supplier issues for covid-19 we are seeing delays and back orders. You can always reach out to me if you need options or if we offer something else. I am very knowledgeable about MINI and sometimes the only person whom has the answer.

Shows in stock, its in stock. Unless it sold out before you placed the order or something. I would have to look into the order and see what went on.

Where do you get the 4” speaker adapter rings. I have been googling but I didn’t find anything so far. I see a bunch for 5.25”.

4" BMW adapter rings.

This is the first time I'm hearing about the adapter rings to install any 4" speaker. Have a link?
