2009 MCS Tuning Time

Hello everyone,

Finally got a few mods done on the MINI, here they are:

K&N Typhoon cold air intake (love hearing the diverter valve now haha)
larger FMIC

Exhaust:
Catless downpipe
secondary cat replaced with resonator
pre-muffler delete, but running stock muffler still

I daily the car and am looking for a tune that can still deliver the great mileage of stock when driving gingerly, but also give this R56 the much-needed pep that I'm craving. I read a lot about Manic tunes but am having 0 luck using that website and am unable to located a dealer (I live near Toronto, ON Canada). What are my options for other tunes that fit my goal? I am not looking to spend any more money on additional parts, I have some coils from my BMW that I plan to fit and maybe get a better set of spark plugs but that's about it (what plugs do you guys recommend anyway?).

If i were you i would choose a tune from @Lou@Prototype-R ...
I dont know this guy and i havent tuned mine yet(i havent even picked it up yet.. ) but i would choose him for sure. He seems to be the most expert on this kind of engines at least. They want to share information and help you do whatever you like especially for you. Im sure that you will understand that this guy is so obsessed with what he is doing that that there isnt something that dont know how it works.Great customer service without even make a job-tune with them...He helped me so much and i cant wait for us to tune mine..!
However there is also Mario that as far as i can see he do some good job as well but also it seems like a "can tune" and not some "custom tune"..Not because he doesnt respect customer or doesnt love this that much, but because he based on "platform" and then might tune a bit the "can program" to make it for you...

PS:I suggest you to visit this topic and decide by your own if this works for you.
PS2: I have no idea for the price..Either for Prototype-R or Mario-Manic
Cheers mate

Check in with "adriancl" on this forum and ask about a remote tune.

Thanks for the info guys. Ideally I’d like to talk to someone that actually had the tunes done first hand.

also can N14’s even be remote tuned? I thought it was only via ECU flashes (requires removal) or through a 3rd party device like “powergate”

I daily the car and am looking for a tune that can still deliver the great mileage of stock when driving gingerly, but also give this R56 the much-needed pep that I'm craving. I personally have RPM stage 2. I don't think you'll be able to get fully custom tune unless you have someone local for you with a dyno. I'm definitely satisfied with Mario's RPM work, although I also think you should contact Loo_Prototype R as the other member here suggested. He seems a lot more transparent on the details of the tune and he's extremely knowledgeable. The fact that he has you take logs and send them back to him to see how your car works with his tune is an extra step that every tuner selling a canned tune should do in my opinion. Actually RPM Power that Mario and Detroit Tuned sell are based in Vancouver so it might be more convenient for you to contact them directly. Manic closed shop, but you can still find people that sell their tune (I believe WayMotorWorks still does)

What you should do is contact every one and make an informed decision.

You can go https://www.eurocharged.ca/product/m...7-2009-stage-1
They are located in Vaughan, ON

I am getting my Mini tuned this spring when the weather gets warmer....

I was on email with Leo, he was very helpful and patient with me, answered any question I throw at him.

RPM is more than just a can tune, we take into account the mods you have and base the tune on them. type of fuel everything. The tune is going to 99% perfect. We can do logs if you need in the case of special builds and out of the box mods, but most don't need that. let us know how we can help. https://www.detroittuned.com/gen-2-e...ne-management/

I'm very satisfied with the RPM Stage 3 on Buzz (it replaced a previous very well done custom dyno tune too!). Bravo!

If your planning on making serious performance get a standalone ecu and a real tune.. on a chassis or hub dyno.

So is Manic no more? I keep hearing it but haven't confirmed. If so I'd be interested in finding someone with a Manic tune and pulling the damos files off the MED17.2 for an open source tune. If anyone is interested in Georgia let me know. Got a ktag and kess.

ByteTronik or RPM are best tunes I've come across so far.
