Anyone have any info on a GA6F21WA tranny rebuild??
I have been studying how these automatics are built for the last week before tackling this job and come to realize my cooper s has a GA6F21WA not an 09g...fml😓. I cant seem to find any videos or detailed write ups on a rebuild of this tranny. Now many of you might say just buy a used one since itll be roughly the same price but for the same price I'd like to rebuild it myself knowing I won't have slipping clutches or valve body issues again with a used trans. Not going to pay top dollar for a reman one. Anybody got any info/diys? Upon further inspection it seems it's not too diff of a design than an 09g. Is this the case or am I just imagining. Thanks.
when I was playing with my '13 justa transmission, I relied on the 09G videos. There is a guy on you tube that goes through them in a great detail, even though he uses a VW tranny version.
Great. So they are somewhat similar internally. If you don't mind me asking which rebuild kit did you use for the GA6F21WA. Im only really seeing this wolfsburgtuning brand offerred in a master kit but not sure on its quality/ reliability. Thanks.
Weeeelll...I stopped short of doing that. I bought the car as flood recovery and after 900 miles of driving, the transmission gave up. I took it apart and couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Mind you back then I was still learning about minis so when i was filling the ATF, I would put like 7 quarts while the car was off...i was a novice lol. Anywho. I'm sure these repair kits are shared with vw. The clutch pack might be fine and in most cases it is the valve body. I think for now, you could check the clearances and solenoids resistances.

I think when these transmissions change name when they're used with different auto manufacturers. Here is a link to a very similar transmission https://www.automaticchoice.com/en/t...sn-09g-09k-09m. I know ours does NOT have a gasket on the ATF pump. I also remember when I was messing with one VB, one or two of the check ***** where stuck. So, before messing with the unit itself, try the VB rebuilding. I had a thread here somewhere and even there was another person who had similar issue. In his case, there was a worn out seal or something in the clutch pack.

thanks for the info. Yeh my plan was to use a transgo solenoid repair kit and clean out the vb at the same time. Because I'm repairing this car for my mother who loves minis I just want to do it right once and not have to think about it again in the future which prob means replacing all frictions/ steels and replacing the drum seals and molded pistons at the same time with the master kit. Guy before me blew his n14 so he put in a reman one right before I bought it. I'll def check out those links thanks.
