Under the seat rattle

I've had a persistent rattle coming from the bottom of my passenger seat which has been bothering me for years. It would only rattle if I had the seat in a particular position without any passenger. I have searched high and low across this forum but could not find anyone else describing this fix. Having lurked here for many years without giving anything back I figured that since I fixed my rattle, others might find the information useful (if not, please ignore my post)...so here goes.

I found out that the rattle is most evident when the seat is not all of the way forward and is raised to its highest position. For some reason, the seat all the way forward would stop the rattle. Of course, this looks silly driving down the road, but I did try that for a week till I could not stand it. Needless to say, I had tried many things. Until finally...

I removed my driver's seat and found that the handle that controls the forward and backward movement of the seat should have small rubber bumpers on the ends of the lever underneath the seat and the bumper also acts as a retainer. Hopefully the pictures will explain what I am trying to say. I noticed that on both sides, the rubber bumper retainer parts were broken. A little Google search informed me that I could fix this by cleaning the rubber with isopropyl alcohol and gluing it with super glue. I waited for about half an hour to let the glue dry. It worked like a charm! Since both sides are exactly the same part and both had torn towards the inside of the seat, I decided to swap the parts so that the mended side is towards the outside of the seat. My reasoning is that the inner side sees more stress from the lever.

***UPDATE***
The rattle came back... :-( . There was too much tension with the seat lever being pulled to move the seat back and forth and caused the glue to fail. I did find a better solution by feeding a zip-tie through the main part of the rubber and closing it around the end of the lever. I have spent the last fifteen minutes sliding the seat back and forth, leaning it forward and backward, going in and out of the car and I could not find any drawbacks with the zip-tie. It didn't break and doesn't get in the way of anything. :-)

Torn rubber retainer at end of lever.

Removed rubber retainer from seat.

Torn rubber retainer.

Repaired using isopropyl alcohol and super glue.

Let cure for half an hour.

Reinstalled. (This is actually the one from the other side of the seat.)
