Back Seat Rattle

I have a rattle in the left back seat. When I put the seat down it stops rattling.

Any ideas?

Check the seat belt buckle isn't rattling against the panels. Also with the seat folded down, look at the metal loop it grabs when it's upright. Make sure it's forward all the way. You'll find you can flip that metal loop to give you a little extra boot space while still having rear passengers. Maybe that part isn't positioned right. And maybe check and be sure the seat is fully latched once you put it back up.

let me know how this turns out. i have an 07 jcw as well that i picked up december 1 (brand new). i've had the same rattling in the passenger side rear quarter panel area. essentially, right where the seat belt sits. i've had people sit back there and the rattle persists but usually only on bumpy roads. living in north nj, those aren't hard to come by. i haven't tried driving w/ the back seats down or any of those tricks listed above but might. haven't taken it to the dealer yet either b/c i'm worried it'll be something that they'll never find/never will go away.

the search continues. I got a piece of foam from work and stuffed it between the seats as I think its almost leather on leather noise. After that zero rattle from the back so I am still trying to figure out what the heck is making the noise.

That's interesting. I wonder if it's really the foam separating the leather or just the fact the foam might be making the sit press tighter on the latch mechanism.

Not sure. I did put the seat in the full vertical position and the sound was still there. I do not see any adjustment in the seat latch but there has to be some somewhere

The loop on the car that the seat catches can be pushed in, it pivots. That is the adjustment I was thinking of.

Normal position
Attachment 29811

Pivoting
Attachment 29813

Extended position
Attachment 29812

Notice the plastic around the whole area. Maybe that metal loop is rattling against the plastic?

I noticed after taking those pictures mine has a little bit of play in the normal position. Not sure if it's enough to make a rattle against the plastic though. Good luck!

i eventually took my car to service @ morristown mini and they diagnosed it as some sort of electrical control panel that was loose or had come undone behind the paneling of the car. assuming they had to remove the paneling and re-attach whatever was loose. whatever it was, it's gone now.

My Clubman had a similar problem with the rear left seat back making noise. It seemed as though the entire seat back was loose. Took it to the dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a "missing bushing" and fixed it under warranty.
