Need JCW buying advice please

My wife and I are going to buy our first Mini Cooper and decided to go all-in and go JCW hatch. We're buying this as a third vehicle for fun.

We decided it must have a manual, forcing us to look only at used.

Preferred configuration:
Pepper white w/ black roof, sun roof. (outside color most important)
Brown leather interior (1st choice), JCW red/grey suede, don't care after those two choices.
JCW Pro exhaust
Prefer HUD

Here's the questions:
Looking at JCW Pro exhaust for sound note, ability to go loud or run quiet depending on where we are. Are there other options (aftermarket) that offer the ability to open up or close the exhaust that work as well or better?

Can the JCW Pro exhaust still be purchased if the vehicle isn't equipped with it?

What are the changes of finding a used pepper white w/ black top in a manual if I'm patient?

When was the brown leather interior first offered in the JCW and is it uncommon? If it's uncommon is it because the other JCW interiors are preferred by buyers?

On the "build" section of mini's website the "Dynamic Damper Control" is optional. How can you tell if a used JCW has it or not. I want it, but it is seldom listed as options.

What model years are best? Any that had issues?

Yes, you can get the JCW PRO exhaust through dealers or aftermarket ones are available as well. The aftermarket ones are usually a little less expensive. Remus seems to be very popular. The PRO exhaust adds 8 horsepower.

What are the changes of finding a used pepper white w/ black top in a manual if I'm patient? I can't help you here.

I have a 2016 model that I ordered and picked up in November 2015 and it has been flawless with over 50K miles and a lot of them are hard miles. I have not heard of many complaints about them either.

I think all of them from 2016 - 2019 are the same. There were changes on the 2020 series due to international emission standards.

Manual ones are hard to find, drive both to see which on you prefer.

I have never seen a brown interior on the JCW.
DDC is hard to find, but usually you can "feel" it when you drive the car and switch from regular to sport etc.
I added the JCW exhaust myself there was a sale and it was sub 1k which was far cheaper than the alternatives, seeing the quality of the exhaust I wouldn't go with anything different. It is OEM quality that bolts right in.
It isn't loud even in the "open" state, my M3 was quite a bit louder than this in stock form.
I looked at 20 JCWs 0 had the exhaust...

I have the dynamic damper control and was well worth the money with the modes available. Very comfortable on the street and firm when in sport adjusts to firm. I have the NM module and with the PRO exhaust and in sport mode it dynoed at 269.8 HP. It is a mean little beastie that is hard to beat on the Tail of the Dragon. The monster that eludes me is the Subaru WRX STI, maybe I will do better with the GP!

Off subject but will ask...

Is it a JCW or CS?
If especially a JCW, do you have to NM module on the 100 Octane but running 93 Octane?
I have the same set up as you have in a 2018 JCW with in addition an AWE CAI and never have had the NM module switch on high especially driving 90% of the time between 7~9000 feet. We only have 91 Octane here in NM.
Of course I could mix "BOOSTane" but have not done it. Was told to not use the higher switch with 91 Octane...
Thanks!!!

JCW, I run it on the lower setting running 93 octane Shell mostly and that is what I had it dynoed on. I have used 93 octane with TORCO on the high setting and the butt dyno tells me there is more power. I am unable to use it at full power in the setting on the Tail as I lose traction in the twisties, but I am running Michlen A/S 3+s. Both of my JCWs (R56 & F56) had OEM Dunlop runflats that failed on the Tail with knots on the sidewalls. I switched to the Michelins at the MOTD using the Michelin onsite truck. I plan to run with the Michelin super sport non runflats on it. I carry a kit with all the necessities to repair the tire if it is repairable, otherwise I will wait for the rollback.

I always call my JCW my useless car!... as I only drive it up the many mountain loops we have starting a mile away! Lucky me... [NM] But yes, I am experiencing the same "loss of traction" and that is with the Cravenspeed Big Pair. I will NOT go with new suspension. Too pricey for me. Spacers? Hmmmm... that is not going to do much. NM Eng. Billet Aluminum Tie-Bar? Maybe... Yokohama Advan are great, maybe not as the Michelin... Can never stand the Run Flats, they are a couple sets sitting in storage!
However, as I always drive alone, something strange happened as the other night a Friend rode with me [160lbs] and the handling was much better! That shocked me... Was it my imagination, or true?
I might ask that question in a new thread...
BTW, T of the D use to be my backyard for too many years... on motorcycles! I honestly preferred the Cherahollah [spelling!] Skyway... I always worked on weekend and always had both to myself pretty much during the week...

And no! It is not a crime scene sketch...

There are a lot of good twisties in N. C. I still like the Tail the best, but Little Switzerland Road, Moonshiner 28, Wayah Road, are great. Not enough twisties on the Cherahola for me. The backroads to Helen are pretty good and the 3 lane road into it is great! We go a couple of times a year and run with our Tarheel buddies. We take backroads through Eastern Kentucky and the Rattlesnake over the mountain via Sneedville into Tennessee. Lots of good twisties in the area.

manual is supposed to go back into production early next year, http://www.motoringfile.com/2019/10/...eturn-miniusa/

If you go used you can tell if have DDC by going into My MINI/vehicle settings/driving mode and should be an option for suspension settings

There are aftermarket dual mode exhaust, Remus being best. Also 2020 cars don't have pro exhaust as an option, but most likely current one would fit

The car is front left heavy with a single driver unless corner balanced, not too crazy to notice a subtle improvement with a passenger.

FWIW I have a 2020 JCW HT and put the OE performance exhaust on it and it works just like it did on my 2019 JCW. Sounds great. No Bluetooth issues. Quiet when closed, loud when open.

I just picked up a 2020 JCW 2 HT last week and was unable to install the JCW pro exhaust by the dealership.
when the dealership put in the VIN for my car in the system to search for compatible exhaust nothing showed up. So they called mini of North America and they told the dealership that due to the emission regulation they can no longer offer the JCW exhaust on the JCWs post 2019 April/March production. And will void warranty to install them and it’s considered illegal so the dealership can’t install it.
The parts guys from the dealership raised a case with them and couple of days later the responded saying that they are bringing a new exhaust pro for the JCW in the first quarter of next year.

That is BS
Yes technically it could be considered illegal because it would have a different cat than the original.
But by law they Can NOT void your warranty for putting it or ANY other exhaust for that matter. By law you can put any mod or part you want on your car and a dealer or manufacture can NOT void your warranty unless they can prove that part has caused a failure that you are trying to get warranty on. Being an exhaust there isn't anything that would damage mechanically to the car. But for example if you melted the bumper or had a rattle from it they wouldn't have to warranty that.
But if you want an exhaust go with the Remus as it is by far the best for the F56 cars, and still has the flap like the JCW

Thanks! Will take a look at that.
I think the parts guy meant the warranty on the exhaust would be void if installed on the newer JCW.

That may be possible for them to not offer warranty if put on a car they don't recommend. But with all the issues with the flap not working I avoid the JCW

What is annoying about all this [and a bit more!] is the fact that seemingly each Dealer has their own rules!
I don't think it has anything to do with wanting higher sales or not.
I deal with Mini of El Paso [NM] and been told in our conversations many times to not remove the NM module. I only deal with always the same mechanic and he will take it off if needed and re-install it [plug and play]. Of course I like it in parallel with my AWE COI and a peace of mind for me to not having to deal with that aspect. They are a very busy BMW/MINI Dealer...
So?
I have heard of other Dealers doing the same and also others absolutely not...
???

*** Way Motor Works
You have the best prices on everything except the "NM Eng Billet Upper Tie Bar" which I want to order. Surprised.
