SSR comp price increase

Checked out tirerack today and notice that the price of 16" SSR Comp has increased $30-$40 per wheel !!! What's up with this huge increase?? We are talking about 12-15% increase here.

That comes to $160 difference for the 16x6.5 wheel that I wanted....now I really regret not buying it earlier

Steel!! The price of steel has gone WAY up. On March 29th this year I bought 1500+' of one steel item I use and it was $.94 per foot. On April 6th I bought another 1500+' of the same item and it was $2.12 per foot. All metal has gone up as well as building material (go check out the price of plywood). China has started buying everything in the world (at least that is the story 10 to 12 people have given me). Not only has the price gone way up but the availability has gone way down.

And the dollar is getting weaker will probably affect a lot of what we buy.

I have my used 17" SSR track wheels for sale. $1,000 includes two good Avon TechR's, one almost new TechR and one destroyed TechR. One of the wheels has a couple of small scratches from my off track excursion into a tire wall.

Yes, it's expensive if you want the real deal. I only look at Comps and
TE37's when I want the best performance wheels from Japan. I keep
asking Tirerack to carry Volks... there are many people willing to pay
premium prices.

boo hoo...! boooo!!! BOOOO!!!

I'm thinking about getting some 19" SF Winnings for my G35C...I would
feel much more comfortable buying from the Tirerack than anyone else
at this moment for a $3.5K package...

Politics? SSR probably has some clout to snuff out the high end competition.

I read in the newspaper steel prices are so high now that thieves are stealing manhole covers by the 100s across the country and selling them for scrap metal. Replacement costs are about $45 to $75 each depending on size and scrap metal buying price is $6 each.

Sometimes I read about people stealing the highway guard rails along the side of the road. Some nerve.

This just means all those metal parts aren't going to be costing any less-
It's only a matter of time before we see price hikes in other wheels, exhausts, cars in general, rotors, suspension parts, etc.

How depressing.

When I was in taiwan last year manhole covers were going missing in Taipai and showing up on the streets of Bejing! Also, two guys were busted for bulling up old rail spurs that weren't being used (even though they were owned by a company, on a private track). And that was just in 12 days in march.....
