2 New Mods, 1-inside/1-outside

Just had a USA Spec 6-disc changer installed in my 05 MINI. Having installed radios/8 track/cassett/cd systems since the 60's for some reason I just didn't want to try this, cause I just knew something would go wrong. Well, I was wrong, the installer said it was the easiest install he had ever done. I showed him the factory plug, he plugged it in and it worked just like factory install. Bolted it in and that was about it.

Then I had a local graphics shop put the boot stripes on and a side graphic on. We did a little work on the side graphic to get it like I wanted it but in a couple of hours I was out of there and on the road.

what was your reason for adding the costly 6-cd changer to the boot?

your 05 MINI plays MP3s on the stock head unit, so you can hold 10+ cds on one cd in your head unit; more than the 6-cd changer can hold...

i don't see a need for the cd changer

1) simplicity...I have a CD burner and lots of CD's
2) don't do MP3s yet,,,,that may be down the road but not now.
mp3=10 cd's + 6 disc changer = 16 cd's

Who ever based anything on need when they are buying stuff for their MINI , also I got it for around $250 couldn't resist!!!!!!!!!

I burned a gob of MP3's to a disk thinking I was brilliant and then found that

to listen to song number 53 I had to push the arrow key 52 times...
is it me or is there a 'skip to song X' function on the radio?

btw, Nice boot stripes Oldhippie!

I don't have my MINI yet so I'm speculating here...

On my current MP3 compatible HU there is no "skip to track" option either, but a little planning ahead of time can prevent your frustration.

When you burn your MP3's organize them in folders. (you can do this by artist, album, genre, etc.) Then you can skip quickly to the particular "folder" you want and "arrow through" to an individual track.

Hopefully someone with an '05 HU can chime in with the exact process.

actually, the idea of 16 cds isn't so bad...

put in the 6 that i listen to the most and then a mix mp3 cd in the front...

i like it

as for the tracks, folders is the best way to go...there is no "skip to number" feature...tho u can always hit random a few times to get to a song number MUCH closer to yours than 1....

if u do no folders, just 150 songs, then random would be pretty quick to get to something with in 20 of your song...or do folders and put songs in each folder (ie one folder per cd or per genre or artist, etc)

MINI could have done a MUCH better job for not really any more money...ie put the filename on the screen instead of 'Track 27'

and a way to input which track# you want woulda been nice...

How do you put folders on an MP3 disc? I use itunes, but would use something else if I can do this.
