Extended Warranty After Lease
Extended Warranty After Lease
Buying out my 2017 hardtop 4 door from its lease. Very low miles, ~15k.
Dealer is recommending the extended warranty.
Is this worth it? If I do things like changing the air intake system void it?

How long do you plan to keep your car/how many more miles do you plan on getting out of your MINI?
What is not covered? Be sure to have the dealer inspect your mods and confirm, in writing, that any extended plan you purchase will not be void due to existing mods on the car. If they won't put it in writing, beware. Lots of small print in those contracts that makes it easy for MINI to wiggle out of paying for future repairs.
How much will the extended service plan cost? Will the dealer discount it?
Some people find that, instead of buying the extended coverage plan, they just put what they would have paid for the contract into a savings account to cover possible future out-of-warranty repairs. If they need it, it's there. If they don't then they win!
Don't forget to contact MINI Finacial to see if they will offer you a discounted price that is less than the residual buyout amount. And you should be entitled to an under-mileage credit of $200~$300 on your lease. Ask about that. You might save a few hundred bucks there.
many extended warranty don't come from MINI but from third party insurance
there's nothing stopping you from shopping this for a 'best deal' outside of the dealer. About the time any of my cars have come out of warranty I start getting mailing from several wrnty offerers . . . and there's others that advertise on TV constantly.
personally I stopped buying extended war' a long time ago. They never seemed to cover what actually broke and not once did I feel I recovered the investment. All it is in the end is insurance against a repair bill. If you can't cover a repair bill this is a way to get your car back but if it does not break you are out the $$. What if you put the cost of the war' in the bank and collect interest?
Most can't live without heath insurance because medical bills get BIGGER than what can afford FAST. Car repair isn't the same IMO.
