MC40 wheel colour?

Was wondering what is the correct colour for the MC40 wheel centers. I have a couple of places on the wheels where I polished down to the primer. Would prefer the non aerosol type of paint. I realize it has a clear coat on top of the base coat.

Would you know if this paint available at the parts store or dealership only?

I'm pretty sure the original is Powder Coating. If you are planning on a DIY job, matching the color may be a bit tricky, there are several paint companies that have a Anthracite paint but I would be cautious on matching, unless you go to a paint shop and have them match the paint through several spray-outs to verify the color. (But this can be as expensive as just having a local Powder Coating shop re powder coat the wheels.

The wheels do come apart and the silver ring is covered in a Clear Powder Coating, that has a tendency to pit and discolor over time. Most DIY R90 wheel projects are to refresh this part of the wheel because the Anthracite center has always been really good and unless you have physical damage the finish has been bullet proof.

So, to finally answer your question, I do not think there is established touch-up paints for these wheels from MINI USA (the Dealers). Unfortunately I do not have any personal experience with the various Anthracite Plastic-Dip/Coats and paints for these wheels so I can not make any product recommendations. I can however suggest you do a Web Search for Automotive Wheel Paint Anthracite and see what options are out there if you are planning on keeping this a DIY project.

Parting words, I have found that several local Powder Coating Shops in my area would only charge me about $200.00 a wheel to disassembly, prep, powder coat, and assemble the wheels and that comes with a one year warranty.

+1 on JABowders. I had two wheels refinished at a local shop (Dallas area). They machined the rims to remove curb rash and repainted the centers. They were close to the originals and looked great but they were not an exact match (to the other two) even though they used an outside paint store that employed a spectrometer to mix the paint. The color has changed since 2004 due to age, sunlight, wear, etc. The only way to get a perfect match of all four wheels is to refinish all four wheels at the same time.

You might try Dupli-Color Arctic Silver; real close. For small touch-ups, buy an aersol can and spray the paint into the cap, then brush on.

Is this it? The Arctic Silver looked too light, looking at the lid.

I would be surprised if "silver" was the correct color. I've used an "anthracite" that I purchased on Lowe's (sorry, don't recall the brand) on some interior pieces and it's matches perfectly.

But will it match the colour of the wheels?

Hard to say because I thought I had the leftover can in my garage but couldn't find it. It definitely matched the anthracite in my MC40 interior. Probably worth a spray-out though for $6. I'll continue to research and let you know if I discover brand/stock #, etc.

Oops! Just found it in the utility room. It's Krylon Fusion All-In-One paint/primer, color: Metallic Dark Metal. Got it at Lowe's - $6.28.

Bought a can today and found it to be too dark.

Bummer. Keep it around because it's a good match to your anthracite interior pieces. Exactly matching an MC40 wheel is going to be difficult because of color fade over the last 15 years.

I found Rustoleum was a better match.

Best bet......spend a few bucks and get them all refinished/powder coated. That way they will all match.
