I installed a new SANDEN AC compressor in my 2008 R56S yesterday I ordered from ECS Tuning. It looked virtually the same. Original was also a Sanden.
After I got it on and put the belt on, I noticed the belt tensioner was almost resting on the alternator pulley. I then measured the pulleys and the new part # 64529223392 (original was 64522758145) is 1/2 an inch smaller. The 64529223392 supersedes the original for who knows what reason. (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...&q=64522758145)
I also installed a new DAYCO belt tensioner at the same time which has a different design for the arm. It is MM away from touching the AC pulley. Anyone notice that?
I wonder if I should get a shorter belt. (belt 11287604014 : 6K x 895) I know that their are 2 AC compressor part #s with different corresponding belts, but I double checked and mine seems to be the correct combo of belt (belt 11287566789 : 6K x 905) and AC compressor. Does anyone know if the belts are interchangeable?
original compressor 64522758145 New compressor installed part # 64529223392
DAYCO tensioner arm almost touching alternator pulley.
Where does it state that? I ordered after speaking to your staff and they told me to order 64529223392 . They never told me to get a shorter belt to go along with it. The unit is installed. I assume I can get away with the shorter belt 11287604014 (894 vs 905mm)?
Yes I see that but your staff gave me that part over the phone number based upon my VIN. They never mentioned ordering a shorter belt. Come on man, this is why I order from ECS Tuning and not a million other places. To avoid these mistakes.
Oh, ok sorry they missed that. I will also update the system to make it more clear. Yep, get that shorter belt.
Mike P is over-nighting me the correct belt. Your system is mostly clear but your staffer made a mistake. We all do it.
Im just glad I can swap belts and not have to pull a compressor!
If anyone needs a new compressor, save $100 and get the newer compressor design 64529223392 and a smaller belt 11287604014 rather than accommodating the new compressor to the original belt.
