Can't manually open hatch

My 2005 R53 needed a new battery so I removed the battery and closed the trunk while I went to get a replacement. Now I can't open the hatch manually. I pulled the hatch release cable under the seat and it sounds like the hatch being released, but I still can't open the hatch. It releases just a little bit where I can get my fingers under the hatch door, but it doesn't fully release. I tried pushing it back down and tried it again (several times), but no luck.

Any idea what else I can try?

Thanks!

With jumper cables, connect the new battery to the +battery connection under the hood & a good ground.
Then, if it worked before, the electric hatch button or the key fob will work.

Nice tip! That got me back up and running. The "trunk is open" light is on, however, even though I closed it securely. I tried turning the car on/off and opening/closing the trunk. If you have another tip for this, that would be awesome. Either way, I really appreciate your help!

Disconnect then re-connect the battery and see if the "trunk is open light" will go out when you close the rear hatch.
