Rear main seal on auto n18 r56

Looks like my rear main seal has gone bad, and I know this can be a really expensive repair wondering if any one has any experience with this and If there is any ways to fix it cheaper and ways to not fix it cheaper ( like covering the entire area in rtv)
the internet told me to buy blue devil rear main sealer. But the internet also told me my headache was colon cancer ( I got better )
For shingles I called the dealer to see how much to replace it waiting on a call back
Went through maybe a quart in 1k miles so that seems like it could be a big issue

Thanks

How did you know it was the rear main seal as opposed to oil filter housing or bad PCV?

check newtis.info for procedures. By the way, the main rear seal is similar to front main seal, just bigger diameter. No rtv is needed or required.

There isn't any way to actually fix it without pulling the transmission. Stop leak or something might work but you're potentially going to introduce lots of issues later on like clogging up the small feed/drain lines on the turbo. I'd also double-check that it's actually the RMS leaking and not an axle seal or the oil filter housing gaskets which all kind of end up dripping off the bottom of the bell housing.

sorry no shortcut as you got to pull the trans to do it.

And DO NOT use the blue devil stuff as it is like cancer and you can't get rid of it as I just went through this getting it out of another car last week.

If it's loosing a quart like that it is going to soak the clutch and you'll have to do it too, but if you pull the trans do it anyway.
Also make the best of the job and do the other repairs like add the powerflex control arm bushings and if budget allows a Quaife LSD

A RMS leak would only be leaking out the bottom of the bellhousing.

looks like the oil filter housing, valve cover, or the vacuum pump. as said before, if this were the main seal, it would be right at the bottom.

Absolutely agree. The oil would be coming out of the hole at bottom of bell housing. You have oil running down the housing so NOT rear seal. Your mechanic is wrong.
